I have a question Mark Rober: Ok, so if I 1v1 someone and I beat them 30-0 how much better am I then them, cause im not like 30 times, or infinitely times better because that would still be zero. Am I just “better” or is there an explanation to it?

I had your "calculate the weight of an astronaut" question on a final physics exam in college (Carnegie Mellon). I gave your response by using springs and the formula. However, I only got 1/2 credit because I failed to talk about the effects of the spring on the spacecraft -- i.e. the spacecraft will exert a force on the spring as the spring interacts with the spacecraft. So, the answer is more complex than just a simple formula!

Why not weigh them when doing routine thrusts, for maintaining orbit distance. Just use a very accurate scale and see how hard they are pushed into it by the acceleration. If you don't have gravity just make your own.

Funny I should come across this. I was just wondering this question myself earlier today. The best I could come up with was to spin the astronaut and measure how much energy it takes to spin them up to a certain amount of angular momentum. Then you could work out from the energy required and figure out the mass of the object, or person. Of course this is wildly impractical and inelegant. So I'm sure they've got something better. In retrospect, I'm sure doing the whole thing linearly instead of spinning the astronaut would work, as well. Get something to push them, then measure their speed and how much energy the device put into pushing them and you should get a good idea of how much mass you just moved.

.... Um, inertia IS newton's first law. You're literally talking about the same thing. "Newton's first law states that every object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change its state by the action of an external force. This is normally taken as the definition of inertia." - NASA "in·er·tia 1. a tendency to do nothing or to remain unchanged. 2. (Physics) a property of matter by which it continues in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless that state is changed by an external force."

Tip for ketchup bottles. Open the lid and squeeze the bottle a little and close it back up while still squeezing so that the pressure in the bottle is lower than atmospheric. And now when you open the lid after moving the ketchup to the opening, it will not spew out everywhere . Also, I sling the bottle while holding the base and use centrifugal force instead of acceleration and deceleration lol

As a physics teacher, I love these videos and would love to use them in my classes, but the auto-captions that they currently have do not meet ADA standards for my Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. ALnets makes it pretty easy to go through and edit the captions for grammar and accuracy (ie adding punctuation and correcting any words that did not transcribe properly). I know some of your videos have full and proper captions, would love to see that for this video as well!

Video idea here: DemolitionRanch on ALnets has 2 videos on shooting a bullet threw a curved pipe and it works, maybe try to partner with him, honestly if your able to get ahold him he would do it any day he could. Then you give us the science on it and that video would be amazing. You could even try to partner with the slow mo guys and do clear pipes to watch the bullet travel.
